ROTARY PARK

Public BBQ

Rotary Park presents itself as one of those wonderfully unpretentious Australian rest stops that manages to be both indispensable and mildly exasperating in equal measure. The approach via a road that could charitably be described as "characterful" - complete with potholes that seem designed to test one's suspension - sets expectations accordingly. What you'll find is a generously shaded area beneath mature trees, with picnic tables scattered about in that relaxed Australian fashion. The toilets, when accessible (and therein lies the rub), are surprisingly clean, though one does wonder at the engineering marvel that dispenses precisely one sheet of toilet paper per visit. The facilities seem to operate on their own mysterious schedule - locked during the day, locked at night, presumably open during some sweet spot known only to the local council. It's the sort of place where you might find yourself changing windscreen wipers in the rain, grateful for the shelter, or simply stretching your legs on a long drive. The dump point adds practical value for caravan travellers, and despite the ground's tendency toward sogginess after rain, it serves its purpose admirably as a roadside respite.
